The Bassett’s Cricket Ranch Story
Not every family cultivates crickets in their house on purpose.
In a stroke of luck for reptile enthusiasts all over the country, Dale and Dorothy Bassett, along with their two sons, Russ and Jon, are such a family.
Dale and Dorothy started growing a few crickets for fish bait and the occasional pet store pickup in 1969. Keeping reptiles as pets experienced a surge in popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and Bassett’s Cricket Ranch took off, riding the tide, growing feeder crickets for reptiles. Today, the Bassett’s operation sells more than three million crickets each week, primarily for the pet industry. The facility boast 48,000 square feet of environmentally controlled buildings and warehouses. We’ve come a long way from our small family operation of the 1960s.
Today, Russ Bassett manages the operation as President and CEO, with, his son, Russell Bassett as Vice President and Carlos Gonzalez as Production Manager. Bassett’s Cricket Ranch is proud to have over 25 employees who cultivate crickets and mealworms and complete all packaging and shipping.
